The reply from Mr. Kshitish Shukla International Business Development Manager  of The Food and Environment Research Agency

I have discussed about Sri Lankan market with management and also alternative approach to treat SLATL as key account. However management thinks that it's small market to appoint an agent in Sri Lanka. You can still place an order as a customer to FAPAS on behalf of  your all member laboratories, which will not qualify you to get agent commission. However if all laboratories place bulk order through you then you will still get bulk discount as per our normal term & condition. Please let me know if you need any further information about placing an order. Feel free to contact me or my colleague Neil (CC here) for any assistance.

Thanks

Tish

Private member’s bill in house to incorporate STATL :

News posted on : (Friday, January 21, 2011)

UPFA Colombo District Parliamentarian, Thilanga Sumathipala, had introduced a Private Member’s Bill to incorporate the Sri Lanka Association of Testing Laboratories (SLATL).

The Sri Lanka Association of Testing Laboratories (SLATL) was started in 1998 to improve productivity among testing laboratories based on an idea put forward by Mr. Agust Jonsson (then SIDA consultant to the Department of Fisheries). A steering committee was formed headed by Dr. C. C. S. de Silva of Bamber & Bruce Laboratories, with the assistance of Ms. S. Ambalavanar, Ms. Subadra Jayasinghe (CISIR– now ITI) and Mr. Sunil Liyanarachchi of SLSI, to work out the constitution and start off operations. The Inauguration of the SLATL had been held at Renuka Hotel, Colombo under the auspices of Mr. Agust Jonsson and Mr. B. S. P. Mendis, Director General of SLSI on September 25, 1998. One of the main objectives of the Association was to uplift the quality of testing laboratories in the country to a level at which they could compete with International testing laboratories on an equal footing.

At present SLATL has over 70 members, comprising many leading government institutions eg-: The Government Analyst’s Department, the Industrial Technology Institute, the Sri Lanka Standards Institution, Universities and almost all medical laboratories located at leading hospitals in the private sector
